01 THE BACKGROUND

What was
Jaxx Liberty?

Jaxx Liberty was a multi-currency cryptocurrency wallet designed to give people one interface for managing digital assets. It followed the original Jaxx wallet and was developed by Decentral, a blockchain-focused company founded by Anthony Di Iorio.

The wallet was built around a non-custodial approach. Rather than keeping funds in a centralized company account, users held responsibility for their wallet credentials and backups—the keys required to access assets recorded on supported blockchains.

At its height, Jaxx Liberty brought numerous blockchain assets together in one application, with the aim of making crypto management easier for people who did not want separate wallets for every digital currency.

Designed around
everyday access.

A snapshot of the experience Jaxx Liberty set out to provide.

04 CORE IDEAS
01

Multi-asset management

Brought multiple supported cryptocurrencies together in one wallet interface, reducing the need to juggle separate applications.

02

Self-custody

Used a non-custodial model: users were responsible for their own backup phrase and private-key information.

03

Portfolio overview

Provided a single place to view supported digital assets and portfolio information.

04

Cross-platform experience

Was available across desktop and mobile environments, helping users access their wallet on different devices.

03 KEYS & CONTROL

Self-custody
meant self-responsibility.

The wallet owner—not a centralized exchange—ultimately held the credentials used to access blockchain assets.

Your recovery phrase was the backup.

A recovery or backup phrase could restore access to compatible wallet addresses. Lose the phrase and you might lose the ability to recover the wallet; expose it and someone else could gain control of the assets.

Never publish a recovery phrase, enter it on an unfamiliar website, upload it to social media, or give it to someone claiming to offer technical support.
04 STAY VIGILANT

Protect the credentials.
Ignore the pressure.

These principles matter for any self-custodial wallet—especially a discontinued product whose name may be used to imitate support or recovery services.

SECURITY CHECKLIST

Before you click, install, or share—pause and verify.

  • Never publish a recovery phrase online.
  • Never send wallet credentials through email or messaging apps.
  • Be cautious of websites claiming to be official Jaxx support.
  • Do not install wallet software from unknown download sources.
  • Verify software and migration information independently.
  • Keep important wallet backups offline and protected.
Legitimate support should never need your complete recovery phrase to verify wallet ownership.

06 / IF YOU USED JAXX LIBERTY

Thinking about
old wallet assets?

Take your time. The safest first step is protecting the original recovery phrase—not rushing to a website offering a quick fix.

Read the cautious approach
01

Protect the original phrase

Do not type it into a site because it displays the Jaxx name or logo.

02

Research maintained software

Review compatible wallet options and verify the provider’s documentation independently.

03

Understand what a wallet does

Balances are recorded on blockchains; a wallet provides tools and credentials to interact with them.

Cryptocurrency transactions are irreversible in many circumstances. Verify carefully before entering sensitive information or sending funds.

07 LOOKING BACK

A chapter in
consumer crypto.

Jaxx Liberty played a notable role in making multiple digital assets accessible through a single consumer-facing interface. Its emphasis on self-custody reflected a wider movement toward individual control of digital assets.

Though the product has been discontinued, understanding private keys, recovery phrases, and responsible security remains essential for anyone managing digital assets today.

THE TAKEAWAY

Verify first.
Move carefully.

Jaxx Liberty was a convenient, multi-currency, self-custodial wallet. Since it sunset in 2023, do not assume sites offering downloads, support, or recovery services are affiliated with its original developer. Seek trustworthy historical sources and current documentation from any wallet provider you consider.
